There are two pharmacies in Haverhill which open for 100 hours a week, one at Tesco's supermarket and one in the surgery building. Both supply medication to any patient, including those registered at the surgery.
There are four other dispensing chemists in Haverhill -
Sainsburys pharmacy is inside Sainsburys supermarket, Well Pharmacy is on Mill Road near the Drabbet Smock, David Holland chemist is next door to the Clements Surgery and Boots is on the High Street. Opening hours vary and may be found under the heading marked pharmacy, opposite.
Should you require the service of a physiotherapist, you may not need to see the doctor. You could self refer yourself to our local Allied Physiotherapy Service to avoid using the doctors time unnecessarily.
This is now based in the Well Being Area at Haverhill Leisure Centre.
You can access their website at www.ahpsuffolk.co.uk
Self refer yourself: www.ahpsuffolk.co.uk/referral
Or telephone their service: 03330 433 966
They also offer a Women's Health Physiotherapy for incontinence/bladder problems. Use the above links and follow the prompts.
We have an in-house physiotherapy team who may also be able to help you - please telephone the surgery and speak to the receptionist who can advise you about booking an appointment with our in-house service on 01440 703667/702010. This service is a available for advance and on the day appointment on Monday's, Wednesdays and Fridays.
We have a fantastic midwifery team locally who offer a very personal level of care.
The majority of patients choose to go to Cambridge (the Rosie) or Bury St Edmunds to have their baby, although some do choose to have their babies at home, and are well supported by the midwifery team.
When you find out you are pregnant come and see us. The practice supports home deliveries for our registered patients. We will do our best to be there if you or the midwife feel that you need or want us there and are happy to see you at any time in your pregnancy in addition to your midwifery appointments if you would like to see us.
We aim to offer a child friendly surgery. We offer all the usual baby immunisations, and if you have any worries about your baby or toddler please don’t hesitate to come and see us. We will always speak to you or see you on the day if you feel your baby or toddler is unwell.
Please don’t hesitate to call.
Our Health Visitors run baby clinics in the old Health Centre across the road from the Surgery. Health visitors mainly work with families with children under five years old, offering support and advice on feeding, sleeping, growth and development, and offering help for new mums and families needing support.
District nurses offer a range of care in the community including post-operative care, leg ulcer care, catheter care and palliative care in terminal illness. Again we are lucky to have a marvellous team working with us. The district nurses can be contacted on their direct number, 01440 710036.
The Nurse practitioners offer a comprehensive women's health service. This includes a complete contraception service including oral, injective and emergency contraception.
Oral contraception should be reviewed 3 months after initiation or change and then a minimum of annually.
For the maturing lady, menopause symptoms can be problematic. Discussion of available treatments with assessment and review of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can be offered by the Nurse Practitioners.
HRT should be reviewed 3 months after initiation or change and then a minimum of annually (if you have not had a review for some time you will be invited to do so with your next prescription request).
Schools and nursing homes
The practice also provides care for boarding pupils at Barnardiston Hall Prep School and Broadlands Hall Special School. We also look after patients in Eastcotts Nursing Home, The Meadows and The Swallows and can provide occupational health services and private medicals on request.
Access for patients with special needsThe practice has access for wheelchair users and an adapted downstairs WC. Patients may be dropped off outside our entrance and there is an on-site wheelchair available.
The following services are provided by our nurses by appointment:
Ready to quit the deadly weed? Please make an appointment with our nurses – we will help as much as we can! We offer support and advice on how best to quit, and can prescribe nicotine replacement or the newer anti-smoking drug Champix.
Consider phoning the NHS stop smoking line on 0800 022 4332 or have a look at their website on http://smokefree.nhs.uk/
The doctors offer minor surgery by arrangement for moles, freezing treatments, in-growing toenails and other minor surgical procedures. Please book in with the doctor to discuss what you need.
Joint injections are offered for conditions such as frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome and shoulder impingement.
PLEASE NOTE THE SURGERY NO LONGER CAN OFFER YELLOW FEVER VACCINATIONS AND THERE IS A NATIONAL SHORTAGE FOR HEP A VACCINES
The surgery offers a full range of travel immunisations, and can also provide anti-malarial tablets to all patients who need them.
If you are travelling abroad and think you may need immunisations try to see us two or three months before travel, to allow us to plan a course of immunisations (since not all can be given at the same time). Please let the receptionist know that you need a travel clinic appointment.
If you are planning to travel to ALTITUDE (trekking or climbing) and would like to discuss medication for altitude sickness then please make an appointment with one of the doctors.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make the initial appointment as early as possible as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive your vaccinations. Many vaccines have to be ordered as they are not all stock vaccines. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Many travel vaccines incur a charge over. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS. Malaria medication is also privately prescribed.
UNFORTUANTELY THERE IS A NATIONAL SHORTAGE OF HEPATITIS A VACCINATIONS. THEREFORE WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH THIS VACCINATION FOR TRAVEL. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, WE WOULD ADVISE THAT YOU CONTACT THE LOCAL TRAVEL CLINIC IN CAMBRIDGE. Travel Health QuestionnaireTo help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.Travel Questionnaire
Please be advised doctors do not routinely issue letters stating patients are ‘fit’ to do any activities such as use of a gym, run a marathon, parachute, cycle or participate in any activity they have chosen to as they have no specialist way of assessing this. They are not required to provide letters for travel cancellations, fit to fly etc. The doctors do not complete passport applications or provide references.
Requests for letters of this type are entirely outside the remit of GP services and are only completed at the discretion of the doctor, on a private fee paying basis and within an agreed and appropriate timescale as they are a non-contractual service.
In some cases a summary of medical problems can be provided to allow the relevant party to make their own decision on your fitness.
Please do not be offended when any such request is declined.
Thank you for your understanding.

Reflexology is available at the surgery by private arrangement: An experienced local reflexology practitioner, Eileen Stevenson, uses a room in the adjoining surgery every week, and appointments can be made with her by asking at reception and we will put your details into her diary. Reflexology can be helpful in many conditions, including in babies with colic who sometimes respond after only one short treatment session. Reflexology involves specialised massage to the soles of the feet, and usually takes between half an hour and an hour depending on your case.
We have 1 Link Worker attached to our surgery who are here a couple of mornings a week, one based at Haverhill Family Practice main site and the other at Stourview, the branch site. Your doctor can refer you to them if they feel it is appropriate.
