Please be advised, doctors do not routinely issue letters stating patients are ‘fit’ to do any activities such as use the gym, run a marathon, parachute, cycle or participate in any activity they have chosen to do, as they have no specialist way of assessing this. They are also not required to provide letters for travel cancellations, fit to fly etc. The doctors do not complete passport applications or provide references.
Requests for letters of this type are entirely outside the remit of GP services and are only completed at the discretion of the doctor, on a private fee paying basis and within an agreed and appropriate timescale as they are a non-contractual service.
In some cases, a summary of medical problems can be provided to allow the relevant party to make their own decision on your fitness.
Please do not be offended when such a request is declined.
